Copernicus Publications Preserves with the CLOCKSS Archive

The CLOCKSS Archive is pleased to announce that it has partnered with Copernicus Publications to preserve their ejournals in CLOCKSS’s geographically and geopolitically distributed network of redundant archive nodes, located at 12 major research libraries around the world. By archiving with CLOCKSS, Copernicus Publications has committed to the preservation of their ejournals. This action provides for content to be freely available to everyone after a “trigger event” and ensures an author’s work will be maximally accessible and useful over time.

Martin Rasmussen, Managing Director of Copernicus Publications, explains the main motivation for participation, “Long-term preservation is one of the most important challenges. Since our publications have become more or less online only, the role of the traditional copyright libraries for printed issues is taken over by reliable e-archives. Securing scientific literature beyond and independent of the lifetime of a publishing house is a mutual obligation.”

CLOCKSS Executive Director Randy S. Kiefer adds, “The CLOCKSS Archive welcomes Copernicus Publications’ ejournals, with their coverage of science, into the community’s archive. By archiving with CLOCKSS, Copernicus Publications will continue to be available to both scientific organizations and the general public now and in the future. ”
