figshare Preserves with the CLOCKSS Archive

The CLOCKSS Archive is pleased to announce that it has partnered with figshare to preserve their data in CLOCKSS’s geographically and geopolitically distributed network of redundant archive nodes, located at 12 major research libraries around the world. By archiving with CLOCKSS, figshare has committed to the preservation of their data. This action provides for content to be freely available to everyone after a “trigger event” and ensures an author’s work will be maximally accessible and useful over time.

“Persistence is something the research community cares deeply about – a community we serve at figshare” said Mark Hahnel, founder of figshare “CLOCKSS provides the secure solution we need to ensure long term access in our continued commitment to the preservation of new research outputs.”

CLOCKSS Executive Director Randy S. Kiefer adds, “The CLOCKSS Archive welcomes figshare’s data into the community’s archive. By archiving with CLOCKSS, figshare has ensured that their data, which includes figures, datasets, and video files, will be available for a worldwide audience now and in the future. We are grateful, as figshare joins the CLOCKSS Archive, for its generous willingness to preserve its content in a way that secures them for the long-term good of scholars worldwide.”

About figshare figshare allows researchers to publish their data in a citable, searchable and sharable manner. The data can come in the form of individual figures, datasets or video files, and users are encouraged to share their negative data and unpublished results too. All data is persistently stored online under the most liberal Creative Commons licence, waiving copyright where possible. This allows scientists to access and share the information from anywhere in the world with minimal friction. figshare offers unlimited storage space for data that is made publicly available on the site, and as of today is also offering 1GB of free storage space for users looking for a secure, private area to store their research. Users of the new site will maintain full control over the management of their research whilst benefiting from global access, version control, and secure backups in the cloud. http://figshare.com.
