The CLOCKSS Archive is pleased to announce that it has partnered with The National Academies Press (NAP) to preserve their ebooks in CLOCKSS’s geographically and geopolitically distributed network of redundant archive nodes, located at 12 major research libraries around the world. By archiving with CLOCKSS, The National Academies Press has committed to the preservation of their ebooks. This action provides for content to be freely available to everyone after a “trigger event” and ensures an author’s work will be maximally accessible and useful over time.
Barbara Kline Pope, Executive Director of the National Academies Press, remarked, “We trust CLOCKSS to take care of archiving the nearly 4,000 books that document decades of authoritative information and knowledge of the National Academy of Sciences and its affiliated organizations. In addition, we know that these important works will be accessible if, for some reason, we are no longer able to make them freely available.”
CLOCKSS Executive Director Randy S. Kiefer adds, “The CLOCKSS Archive welcomes The National Academies Press’s ebooks, covering an amazing range of topics, into the community’s archive. By archiving with CLOCKSS, National Academies Press has ensured that their definitive information on everything from space science to animal nutrition will continue to be available, now and in the future. We are grateful, as The National Academies Press joins the CLOCKSS Archive, for its generous willingness to preserve its ebooks in a way that secures them for the long-term good of scholars worldwide.”
